EYFS Profile Results 2019
The results for the EYFS Profile for the academic year 2018 -2019 show that 71.8% of children are now reaching a Good Level of Development. This is a slight increase of 0.3% from the previous year.
What is a Good Level of Development?
Children achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD) when they attain at least the expected level across the learning areas of Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy and Mathematics.
Diminishing the Differences in the Good Level of Development
There is a decrease in the gender gap for achieving a Good Level of Development. Girls continue to do better than boys however boys are improving at a faster rate.
The learning areas of Writing, Reading, Exploring and Using Media and Materials show the largest gender differences. While the smallest gap is in the learning area of Technology.
Children are still recording the lowest results in the learning areas of Reading, Writing and Number.
The Importance of the Good Level of Development
The GLD is used as a performance measure and also shows a school’s effectiveness in comparison to other schools. It is therefore important that EYFS Provisions have robust assessment and internal moderation systems in place.
It is also an important tool to use for analysing and planning future developments and interventions for progression in EYFS learning within your school.
