What does an Early Years Consultant do?

The role of an Early Years Consultant is to improve the quality of learning, development and teaching in the EYFS through support, advice and challenge. This focused support improves EYFS outcomes for children and strengthens the EYFS curriculum.

How is this EYFS support implemented?

An Early Years Consultant works with Leaders, Teachers and Practitioners across all different types of EYFS provisions. Support is always differentiated and varies according to the level and need of each school or setting and the improvement processes involved.

Improving EYFS Outcomes

Working with school leaders and EYFS teams, an Early Years Consultant will evaluate and monitor EYFS practice and provision. Advice, guidance and training will be implemented on any areas of need. These may include the EYFS Areas of Learning and the learning environments.

Using EYFS Data

Support will also be given to ensure EYFS data is being used efficiently to improve EYFS assessment and outcomes for children. The ways in which individual children’s progress is monitored would also be developed.

Developing EYFS Areas of Learning

Specialist advice would be given on each schools/settings learning environments and ways to develop these to ensure maximum learning opportunities and outcomes for all children.

Ways of facilitating Learning

The ways in which learning is facilitated would be reviewed. Key questioning skills, next steps in learning and the use of reflective practices to improve outcomes and provision for children would be developed.

Challenge in EYFS Learning

The Early Years Consultant also supports Leaders and EYFS teams to review and audit their provision to ensure high quality EYFS outcomes and practice is in place.
